Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We have been developing a virtual reality (VR) system that is applicable to behavioral testing of mouse. Because it is expected to improve efficiency and reproducibility of the behavioral testing. However it has been a problem that a mouse sometimes shows unnatural behaviors probably due to imperfect recognition of virtual environment (VE). To ensure recognition of VE, we develop an equipment providing somatosensory feedback to the mouse, i.e. a mouse is applied an air-puff stimulation from an appropriate direction when the mouse is touching a virtual wall. When the somatosensory feedback is activated, the mouse tends to avoid touching virtual walls. As a result, trajectory of movement in the VE becomes similar to that in the real world. Therefore it is suggested that the developed somatosensory feedback would improve the sense of reality of the VR system for mice.
