Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The different color statistics in paintings and photographs may influence photorealistic and painterly appearances. We calculated a first-order color statistics as a 2-D mean color plane in the CIE XYZ color space for 1000 landscape paintings and for 1000 landscape photographs. The angles of the planes for the paintings and photographs were significantly different in all three directions. We adjusted the color plane of each photograph to the mean of the paintings and found that the manipulation significantly changed the image impression but no painterly-rendering effect. These results suggested that first-order color statistics had a significant impact on the image impression and that to achieve a painterly-rendering effect, manipulating higher-order color statistics is necessary.
