Remote Point of Gaze Estimation using Corneal Imaging Technique

Abstract(in English) Eye gaze tracking (EGT) is used with many applications in various fields. Especially, EGT for children is useful for examining their development. However, commercially available systems are unsuitable in analyzing their gaze behaviors, therefore simple and equipment-free systems are expected. Recently, the corneal imaging technique has been studied and applied for EGT. This technique has several advantages. With this paper, we developed the remote point of gaze estimation system using remote camera and corneal imaging technique to apply for obtaining children's gaze behaviors. To obtain clear corneal reflection images, we used a digital single-lens reflex camera which has automatic focus control. We conducted an experiment with 5-year-old children using our system. As a result, we confirmed that out system obtains the corneal reflection images around 60 to 100 pixel in diameter. Moreover, our system does not require calibration and allows to move the faces in the range of about 50cm.
