Abstract(in English) | In this research, we focus on multimode crossed polymer optical waveguides for increasing the bandwidth density of on-board inter connects. In particular, it is expected that graded-index(GI) core enables to decrease the light leakage at the intersections in crossed waveguide s, compared to the step-index(SI) core counterpart. Actually, polynorbornene based GI-core crossed polymer waveguides were successfully fabricated, and lower crossing loss was experimentally verified over SI-core crossed waveguides. However, the mode power profile in GI waveguides shows a strong launch-condition dependence. So, even if the crossing loss is low enough under perfect alignment for launching, the crossing loss could increase under offset launch. Thus, we simulate the launch-condition dependence of the crossing loss in both SI and GI core crossed waveguides utilizing a ray tracing method. Then, it is theoretically and experimentally confirmed that that GI-core crossed optical waveguides show lower crossing loss than the SI core counterpart independent of the launching conditions. |
