Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) 5th generation mobile communication systems (5G) to be commercialized in 2020 and beyond have been attracting more and more attention in order to support tremendous traffic growth in the future. 5G is generally perceived as a combination of Long Term Evolution (LTE)-Advanced evolution and a novel radio access technology as an enabler of more advanced capabilities. Heterogeneous network is getting a lot of attention as one of the most promising approach to realize 5G. Toward 5G, we have been developing several key technologies for realizing heterogeneous network characterized by carrying out overlay arrangement of small cells into a macro cell and by making separate connection of the link corresponding to radio-resource control (RRC) signaling and user data communication to these cells. In this paper, several activities related to heterogeneous network are introduced.
