Some Studies on Shielding Effects by Linear Arrays of Infinite Number of Conductive Thin Wires

Abstract(in English) Nowadays, the usage of GHz radio waves is spreading over various applications as personal/public communications, near field links between information devices, object sensing in transportation industries, and etc. In these situations, it can be predicted that Electromagnetic (EM) Field Control techniques are required to keep the EM field strength in a certain restricted area less than the limit and to maintain the better performances of the applications. Accordingly, EMC researchers are coming to recognize that the electromagnetic near fields or electromagnetic distributions are important. For the aims, the authors have been investigating the shielding by arrays of many thin wires. To analyze the fields, we proposed a new effective calculation method: 'thin wire approximations' that gave the fields by composition of the scattering waves from each wire. For early works, the number of thin wires was finite. In this report, the case of infinite number of wires in a linear array is discussed. In the first part, scattering and absorbing phenomena by a single dielectric cylinder with conductivity as the wire are discussed to derive the apparent admittance of the wire (the inverse: wire impedance Z_). The validity of the calculation is discussed using some examples of numerical analyses. After that, induced currents of the wire arrays and the Electric Field reductions in the shielded space or the shaded area for illumination of TM plane waves are estimated. In the last part, the method to find the better wire impedance giving the more reductions is discussed.
