Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Aiming at launching test broadcasting of UHDTV in Japan in 2016, we have developed a new transmission system for UHDTV satellite broadcasting. The target capacity of this system for 8K UHDTV satellite broadcasting was set to 100 Mbps considering 8K HEVC/H.265 codec performance. The use of 16APSK with a LDPC coding rate of 7/9 for FEC and roll-off factor of 0.03 enables 100 Mbps transmission capacity to be achieved within a 34.5-MHz per satellite transponder. This system supports TLV as an input stream format and handles variable length packets like IPv4, IPv6, and MMT. We first detail the technical specifications. The decision process of roll-off factor of 0.03 and symbol rate of 33.7561 Mbaud is also described. Second, we report the performance of the prototype transmitter and receiver. Finally, we show the satellite transmission test results.
