Development of Single-Mode Single-Polarization Hollow Core Rectangular Photonic Bandgap Waveguide

Abstract(in English) Periodic dielectric structures have the photonic bandgap effect, which prohibits the propagation of light of certain frequencies. Photonic bandgap and Bragg waveguides use the Bragg reflection based on this effect and enable air-core guiding, which is impossible to achieve in an index guiding mechanism. We have proposed hollow-core waveguides using the bandgap effect caused by a rectangular cladding with a periodic layered structure and devised a simple and efficient design procedure. In this paper, single-mode single-polarization guiding in hollow-core rectangular photonic bandgap waveguides with a periodic layered Bragg cladding is discussed and the guided modes are verified numerically.
