Abstract(in English) | The supercomputer system of the National Institute of Genetics (NIG) has as its purpose (1) construction of the International DNA Sequence Database (INSD), a tripartite collaboration between DNA Data Bank of Japan (DDBJ), EMBL-Bank in the UK, and Genbank in the US; (2) providing search and analysis services for the DNA sequence data; and (3) providing computational resources to researchers. With the recent advent of next-generation sequencers (NGS), biological researchers have been confronted with a more thanl ,000-fold data deluge, which has led to a rapid increase in demands for storage, calculation capacity, and network bandwidth. In this report, the current state of INSD construction, the NIG supercomputer, and the future direction of the network environment that supports the projects are discussed. |
