Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Many visually impaired persons use the DAISY, an electronic book especially for visually impaired persons. This book is introduced to the Braille library in Japan very early in the world. Multimedia DAISY (mmDAISY) was developed as a standard e-book for use by persons with disabilities, many of whom experience reading difficulties. However, the introduction of the e-book in Japan has been delayed. In this study, we investigated the processes involved in the production of mmDAISY by conducting interviews with various organizations. The following results were obtained, indicating reasons as to why the introduction of mmDAISY is deemed difficult: (1) In Japan, the volunteering producer of mmDAISY has experienced many technical and financial challenges regarding the production of the book. (2) Problems with the playing environment of mmDAISY. (3) Problems with the production tools. (4) Challenges with copyrights. (5) The selection of suitable content for mmDAISY.
