Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Available Bandwidth (ABW) estimation in wireless networks is a critical issue for quality-of-service (QoS) provisioning. Nowadays, a network path often contains at least one wireless link. This is obviously true for mobile users having wireless connection to the Internet through laptop PCs or smart phones. Most of the existing tools for measuring ABW are developed and evaluated in wired network. Since the characteristics of the wired links and the wireless links differ in many aspects, such as fluctuations in capacity and stability due to shared and unreliable nature of the wireless links, the ABW estimation tools need to be evaluated also for network paths containing at least one wireless link. In this paper, we have studied the impact of wireless networks on the ABW estimates produced by our method New Enhanced available bandwidth measurement Technique (NEXT). Extensive simulations were performed, demonstrating that NEXT has very good ABW estimation results in conditions with different packet sizes, dynamic wireless link rate, and different channel noises. Additionally NEXT has lower overhead and lower error rate than other prominent state-of-the-art ABW measurement technique.
