Abstract(in English) | As wireless LAN device gets cost effective and provides "handy" high bandwidth transmission, wireless LAN penetrates the market and is equipped as a standard feature to many electric devices. High bandwidth wireless LAN enables transmission of popular application such as video contents over wireless media. In early days, the performance of the system was measured in maximum bandwidth that the system can offer, and the bandwidth was often interpreted as a measure of communication quality. However, as many users use wireless LAN, it gets difficult to provide a certain communication quality just by making the physical transmission high bandwidth. As number of user grow, adjacent node interference become obvious. Highly congested hotspot cannot offer expected service quality, which is caused by adjacent node interference in many cases. Adjacent node interference makes critical effect on the communication quality of the wireless communication systems, in particular wireless LAN systems that utilize unlicensed spectrum. In this presentation, how the communication quality is measured from lower layer perspective is described. QoS related technologies and adjacent node interference mitigation techniques are discussed. Particularly, mesh network related technologies that are introduced to cope with hidden node problems and dynamic sensitivity control technologies that are discussed in newly formed 802.11ax task group in IEEE802.11 WG are described. In addition, potential further improvements to the existing technologies are discussed. |
