Muscle Contraction Estimation for Analyzing Brachii Co-Activation

Abstract(in English) This paper introduces our method for measuring and analyzing co-activation of agonist and antagonist and its effects. For upper arm, we estimated muscle contractions with different joint angles and different external forces. Muscle tensions are estimated based on Hill-Stroeve muscle model and myoelectic signal, and torque around the elbow joint is calculated based on its anatomical structure. Parameters in the above model are fitted to an individual by parameter optimization. For isometric contraction with co-activation, we obtained good estimation of antagonism between Biceps Brachii and Triceps Brachii for a wide range of joint angles and external forces. In dynamic condition, obtained results are consistent to the previous findings; however, we found that finer model is necessary.
