Abstract(in English) | This paper considers downlink interference mitigation for two-tier cellular systems using Interference Alignment (IA). In order to manage both the co-tier and cross-tier interference in MIMO femtocell and macrocell networks, we have proposed modeling such networks as an overlay cognitive radio network in which the macrocell tier plays the role of primary user and the femtocell tier acts as the secondary user/users. The proposed framework is composed of cooperation between the two tiers by using the Restricted Water-Filling (RWF) algorithm where the PU can release some of its weakest eigenmodes to be used by the SUs. Such cooperation helps the MBS to offload some of its load to be served by the associated FBSs, meanwhile, the FBSs are now able to increase their downlink sum rates through aligning both the co-tier and cross tier interference at its users' receivers. In this paper, we extend the proposed framework to cases affected by heterogeneous path loss and shadowing. The simulation results prove the superiority of our proposed interference mitigation framework compared to the legacy interference alignment approaches in various environments. |
