Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This manuscript proposes a new Visible-Light Communication (VLC) system that transmits information to handheld terminals carried by pedestrians through the use of LED backlighted signboards located in public spaces. To improve previous systems proposed by us, we introduce the use of multilevel modulation. Specifically, in order to avoid the effect of nonlinearity of LEDs, we apply binary baseband modulation to LED by FET switching. We propose a scheme that realizes multilevel amplitude modulation by spatially combining the binary light signals. In order to evaluate the performance, multiple LED lights and a diffuser board are employed to set the experimental environment. In the experiment, we found out that the duty cycle of the ON/OFF switching of the LEDs affects the output voltage of the photoelectric converter. Thus, we apply a scheme that makes those duty cycles become uniform. Consequently, 4-level amplitude modulation is achieved, and our experimental result shows that a t a transmission rate of 5Mbps the bit error rate becomes lower than 10^<-3>.
