Abstract(in English) Device-to-device (D2D) discovery underlaying a 3GPP LTE-Advanced cellular network is studied to enable ProSe (Proximity Services) based terminal identification. Since cellular uplink resource is reused for D2D discovery, half duplex constraint and interference among D2D user equipments (UEs) due to the collision and in-band emission are considered as big challenges to ensure the performance of UE identification. In this paper, we propose a periodic silencing scheme in Type 1 discovery, which is a UE autonomous resource selection procedure from a cell specific resource pool. In the system-level simulation, D2D discovery performances are evaluated considering the different resource pool size and transmission scheme. It is shown that the performance of discovery, especially for the outdoor UEs, is improved significantly by larger size of resource pool due to the reduced interference level. The proposed resource allocation based on periodical silencing with UE specific offset achieves 9% gain in terms of the number of detected UEs after 5 discovery iterations.
