Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Multicore fiber (MCF) is paid much attention as a breakthrough for expanding transmission capacity of optical network. For practical application of MCF, the establishment of its connectivity is essential. We have developed fiber bundle type fan-out (FBF) as fan-out for MCF. In this study, we fabricated 19-core FBF as fan-out for 19-core MCF. Accuracy of core position of fabricated 19-core FBF was evaluated by automatic measurement with image recognition. Core displacement from its ideal position was confirmed to be ≤ 0.66μm with measurement error. Therefore, accuracy of core arrangement of fabricated 19-core FBF was confirmed to be quite high. We also evaluated optical properties for all channels in connection configuration of two FBFs. Insertion loss < 1.10dB, Cross-talk < -51dB and reflection of splice point < -54dB were confirmed at 1550nm. Superior optical properties were confirmed for fabricated 19-core FBF.
