Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Speckle noise in SAR images makes the image interpretation difficult and reduces the accuracy of terrain classification. The basic principle for speckle filtering is to select pixels of the same scattering characteristics to be included in the filtering process. The algorithm first applies the Four-component scattering power decomposition to separate pixels into four dominant scattering categories, and then unsupervised classification is applied. A multilook pixel centered in a 9×9 window is filtered by including only pixels in the same and two neighboring classes from the same scattering category. In this paper, the effect of the speckle filtering will be discussed. This filter is effective in speckle reduction, while perfectly preserving strong point target signatures.
