Abstract(in English) | While data replication is the promised technique which improves "performance" and/or "availability," other properties to fulfill in the system are equally important, that is, "consistency", "scalability," and "security." Especially, consistency management is an essential issue of distributed data replication. This paper focuses on performance, availability and consistency, and discusses on their evaluation measures. Supposing the probabilistic model for consistency, we propose a uniform measure to simultaneously treat the three properties above. It is well known that there is a trade-off between two properties of the three, for instance, the one between performance and availability. Thus such relations have been discussed qualitatively and/or quantitatively in several researches. In distributed data replication, however, there is no study which quantitatively considers the uniform evaluation measure for the three as far as we know. In particular, we introduce "the expected number of tasks per unit of cost in satisfying the appointed criterion" and "the expected units of cost until a task is executed in satisfying the appointed criterion." For an example of the analysis, a quorum system with the probabilistic consistency model is evaluated by our proposing measure. |
