Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Many FTL (Flash Translation Layer) schemes has been proposed to increase performance of SSDs (Solid State Drives) on random writes. These schemes store random writes as Log-structured manner. However, the capacity of cache memory and NAND Flash available for these schemes are usually small because of the limitation of hardware resources in SSDs. To avoid this limitation, this paper introduces a new cache scheme called Self-Caching Flash (SCF) for random writes. SCF uses a small part of each SSD as a write cache controlled by a host. Evaluation results show that SCF reduces write accesses up to 20% and erase operations up to 25% on NAND Flash in SSDs with random write workload.
