Abstract(in English) Satellite broadcasting in the band 21.4-22.0 GHz is expected to provide advanced broadcasting services such as UHDTV and 3DTV, etc. However, a major challenge is the large RF signal attenuation due to rainfall. We are studying a locally variable equivalent isotropically radiated power (EIRP) system by applying an on-board array-fed reflector antenna to change radiation patterns adaptively to boost the strength of the RF signals in heavy rainfall areas while maintaining a constant strength in the rest of the service area. In this system, it will be required to predict amount of rain attenuation in each point based on a nationwide forecast of rainfall rate provided by meteorological bureau and so on towards the decision of target rain attenuation compensated by changing the radiation patterns. As a basic study, we evaluated relationships between rain attenuation distributions and short-term rainfall in some points with different yearly rainfall rates.
