Abstract(in English) | The development of a cost-effective transition-metal-doped femtosecond laser is required from various fields nowadays. To meet the demands, we are developing a solid-state laser using a single-crystal fiber, which can be directly pumped with a high-power laser diode. A multi-mode single-crystal fiber waveguide about 120 μm in diameter and 40-mm long is made by using the laser-heated pedestal growth method. With an external cavity, the fundamental transverse oscillation mode is selected. We report what is to our knowledge the first mode-locked Cr^<4+>:YAG single-crystal fiber laser, which generates a stable train of pulses with 120-fs duration at a center wavelength of 1520 nm. |
