On BER Performance of Optical Wireless Turbo Codes with UTPA

Abstract(in English) In this paper, Bit Error Ratio (BER) performance of standard and punctured turbo code with Unequal Transmission Power Allocation (UTPA) is evaluated. In particular, an overall comparison is made between the BER performance of UTPA enabled standard and punctured turbo codes. Binary Pulse Position Modulation (BPPM) is adopted as the modulation scheme and data block size of 256[bits], random interleaver, odd-even puncturing algorithm are included in turbo encoder. Background noise, scintillation and APD noise are taken into account while modeling the optical wireless channel and the performance evaluation is carried out through computer simulation program. As a result, it is shown that optimum UTPA ratio λ with better BER exists regardless of the coding rate. Moreover, it is found that the effect of UTPA scheme is better in case of the punctured turbo code than the standard turbo code in terms of BER performance improvement.
