Evaluation of User Position Detection Method for Unmanned Aircraft System

Abstract(in English) The Unmanned aircraft system (UAS) has been researched and developed as a temporal communication system for the emergency and rescue service in disaster such as earthquake, serious accidents, and so on. In the typical UAS model, several numbers of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) with the velocity of 40 to 100 km/h and the altitude of 150 to 1,000 meters shall be applied to the provision of a wide service coverage. The UAV is composed of a transmitter and a receiver so as to transfer the signals from terrestrial stations and terminals. Therefore, Doppler shift is occurred in the carrier frequency of the transmitted and received signals by a change in line-of-sight velocity between the UAV and the terrestrial terminal. By observing multiple Doppler shift values for different UAVs, it is possible to detect the position of the user who possesses a communication terminal for the UAS service. In this study, a position detection scheme based on least-square method in conjunction with Doppler shift frequencies is newly proposed for the purpose of life-saving in emergency conditions such as disasters and distress. The convergence-divergence distribution is derived by computer simulation so as to evaluate the capability of proposed position detection scheme.
