Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Micro-scale energy harvesting that utilizes ambient energy sources, such as the light, kinetic, and thermal energy sources around us makes it possible to batteryless system without a primary battery or a rechargeable battery and a normally-off sensor switch. The normally-off sensor switch that performs switching operation with micro-scale energy harvester and a nW-level ultralow-power wake-up circuit reduces the power dissipation in standby mode to almost all zero and removes an external mechanical ON/OFF switch. In this paper, we describe a self-powered wireless urinary-incontinence sensor with urine-activated battery and a self-powered wireless sensor for plant health monitoring with sap-activated battery. Next, two wireless systems are described as an application of the normally-off sensor switch. One is a wireless mouse with an automatic switch powered by a micro-photovoltaic red LED. The other is an IR controlled remote control car with a normally-off wake-up receiver powered by a micro-photovoltaic IR LED that generates power at an IR transmitted signal from an IR remote controller.
