Disaster Resilient Wireless Network R&D by NICT

Abstract(in English) ICT technology has become essential to daily life and now become an information infrastructure. We must prepare a complementary ICT network of mobile phone against happening of huge disaster to avoid network congestion. And it must be alternative means of telecommunication system that are resistant to damage and can be deployed adapting to requirements. Wireless technology, which does not depend on physical wired networks alone, plays an important role in planning resilient data communications networks. Accordingly, we built a wireless mesh network test bed on the campus of Tohoku University in March 2013, to demonstrate disaster-resistant telecommunication technologies. The experimental wireless mesh network has been also constructed in Onagawa town of Miyagi prefecture on March 2014. We briefly report overview of relevant NICT project in this paper.
