Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) VICS Center has tackled with realization of Next Generation VICS service to drivers via FM multiplex broadcasting. One of the new services includes roadway hazard warning, especially under heavy rainfall conditions because recently heavy rain storms have attacked and caused significant damages in Japan. This service will provide useful information for drivers on the car navigation display. This paper describes a system to aggregate the rainfall data using cloud computing technology and generate real-time hazard warning for every 250 squared-meters area with rainfall reaching over 50mm/hr. In order to provide such information, it is necessary to divide each area into several polygons because the data capacity between the FM broadcast station and the receivers is limited. We evaluated the quality of the service, and found that it worked well within the required processing time and satisfied the needed accuracy of the in-car display for the heavy rainfall areas.
