Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) An application of precautionary principle for safety design of machinery is discussed in this paper. General safety design based on risk assessment obviously manages risks as a concept of incertitude involving safety. The concepts of uncertainty and ignorance, which are often opened up for discussion about environmental issues, are hardly addressed in the risk assessment. A preliminary study to introduce precautionary principle into safety design is performed in order to deal with them.
