Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Mode-division multiplexing (MDM) transmission is considered a promising technology for dealing with the capacity crunch faced by optical fiber communication networks employing conventional optical fiber. Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) digital signal processing (DSP) is utilized on the receiver side in order to compensate for the modal crosstalk in the system. To reduce the computational complexity of MIMO DSP, the differential mode group delay (DMD) in fibers should be minimized and various FMFs that guide two LP modes have been proposed for MDM transmission. In this paper, to increase the transmission capacity further, we numerically reveal how to design a low DMD six-LP (10 spatial) mode fiber and show the optical characteristics of fabricated fibers for use in the C+L band with six-LP-mode operation.
