A study of transmission characteristics of spiral optical cable

Abstract(in English) An optical fiber cable with connector enables us to realize an easy optical wiring. However, the optical cable with pre-mounted connector makes it difficult to adjust its length in the field. It can be expected that an optical fiber cable with spiral structure allows us to control the wiring length. However, the spiral structure and its flexibility may degrade the transmission characteristics. In this study, we fabricated spiral optical drop cables and evaluated these transmission losses and multi-path interference (MPI) characteristics. We discussed about parameters required to the optical cable with spiral structure and its applicable conditions.
