Designing a Breeding Game with Spoken Dialogue Interface

Abstract(in English) In this paper, we describe a process of designing a breeding game with an interactive spoken dialogue interface. Recently, there are massive-scale public deployments of speech interface on mobile devices, which has long been expected as an excellent command and control modality. However, as the current speech interfaces have not shown the decided advantages over other type interfaces, the habitual and continual use remains a difficult issue. To solve this issue, this game is designed in order to analyze how the bred characters and the game incentive elements influence users' experience of the dialogue interface. During the process, Human-Centered-Design and gamification theories are practiced. Three main concepts, "users speak to the character to make it grow up", "users win virtual 'coins' and various special prizes by the breeding play" and "the character grows up and becomes able to assist users via the dialogues" are proposed to the game scenario. In order to verify the proposed concepts and improve the game design, the game scenario-based acceptability evaluation was carried out.
