Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In this study, we propose approaches involving abstract animated agents to investigate the specific expressions that are important for facilitating friendly interactions. The experiments were conducted by instructing volunteers to make movement patterns and timings that exhibit friendly characteristics using abstract animated agents. We found that the direction of movement strongly affects the perceived friendliness of their moods. Therefore, we conclude that the approaches based on abstract animated agents would be useful for designing agents/robots that can communicate moods between humans and conversational agents/robots.
