Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Retro-reflective Projection Technology (RPT) is a method of visual display that employs retro-reflective material as a screen and a projector. RPT has been effectively used as a part of augmented and mixed reality systems. In previous studies, we assumed retro-reflective material has an ideal property, i. e., the projected light is perfectly reflected back in the incident direction. Based on this assumption, the projected images should be observed clearly regardless of screen distance. However, a blurred image was observed when the retro-reflective screen is located very close to the eyes. As a cause of this phenomenon, we suspected the non-ideal structure of retro-reflective material. In this study, we compared the images projected on a retro-reflective screen from various distances, while observing images projected on a conventional white screen as references. We observed different types of image deterioration on the white screen and retro-reflective screen. We analyzed this deterioration and indicated the effect of the density of micro-beads on it.
