Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This paper describes a virtual reality system for analyzing human behavior in service fields and its two practical use cases. Sensing and analyzing behavior of human, including both of customer and provider, in service fields are important for designing comfortable service environments and effective service processes. However, it is not practical to collect some kind of data, such as brain wave data and body motion data in the real service situation. Therefore, we have been developing a service field simulator using virtual reality technologies. A person who experiences the virtual service field is surrounded by displays in 360 degrees not for losing sense of direction during 'walking around' the environment. Walking-in-place motion and direction is detected for realize a way of moving around similar to that of the real environment. In this paper, we introduce our new implementation of simulator. We replaced four image projectors to 24 liquid crystal displays for improving resolution of virtual environment for evaluating designs of product packages and signs. We also replaced a wearable sensor module for detecting foot stepping motion into RGB-D sensors set on a frame of simulator. It reduces number of the sensors attached to the person and makes it easier to experience the virtual environment. In order to show feasibility of the simulator, this paper describes two use cases of the simulator. The first use case is for studying a method for evaluating human interest to an environment using an EEG and the simulator. The second use case is for analyzing buying behavior in a drag store using an eye tracking system and the simulator.
