Abstract(in Japanese) | (See Japanese page) |
Abstract(in English) | In our integrated narrative generation system, the verb conceptual dictionary contains semantic information of verb concepts and forms a basic knowledge for constructing events in a narrative. Verb concepts are used in defining various types of narrative knowledge including such contents knowledge of event sequences as relations among events and script-like event sequences, and surface knowledge for narrative expression with natural language and visual image. The current version of the verb conceptual dictionary stores 11951 verb concepts with a classification hierarchy consisting of 36 intermediate elements (e.g., "physical action" and "mental action"). This hierarchical information is, however, not actually used in the system for the lack of classification fineness. Refining the classification hierarchy with reconstruction of the related narrative knowledge structure will provide numerous benefits to the system as below: expanding and editing of narrative knowledge, abstracting narrative knowledge for more flexible uses, and applying the hierarchy to rhetorical generation techniques. In this paper, through discussing concrete designs of expanding the narrative knowledge and its processing based on a refinement of the hierarchy, we will describe requirements for the expansion of the verb conceptual hierarchy and a plan for the development. In particular, we will list three classification standards of verb concepts: conceptual quasi-synonymy, the commonality in a state change, and the degree of abstractness. |
