Application of Non-linear Frequency-Domain Block Signal Detection to Pseudo Block Coded Single-Carrier Transmission

Abstract(in English) Recently, we proposed a pseudo block coded single-carrier (PBC-SC) transmission and frequency-domain equalization and decoding based on minimum mean square error (MMSE) criterion and showed that PBC-SC transmission with frequency-domain equalization and decoding achieves BER performance superior to block coded SC transmission with 2-step decoding, which performs frequency-domain equalization and hard-decision block decoding separately. However, still there exists a large BER performance gap between the frequency-domain equalization and decoding and the matched filter (MF) bound due to the presence of residual inter-symbol interference (ISI) after frequency-domain equalization and decoding. In this paper, we apply non-linear frequency-domain block signal detection (FDBD) to PBC-SC transmission in order to further improve the BER performance. We evaluate, by computer simulation, the BER performances of PBC-SC transmission with frequency-domain iterative interference canceller (FDIC), maximum likelihood block signal detection employing QR decomposition and M-algorithm (QRM-MLBD) and that with belief propagation (BP). It is shown that QRM-MLBD (BP) can achieve almost the same BER performance as MF bound with about 1/2 (1/8) times lower computational complexity compared to frequency-domain equalization and decoding based on MMSE criterion.
