Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The digital coherent transmission technology using multi-level modulation has been considered to be a promising candidate for the accomplishment of a 100 Gb/s channel rate in wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) systems. We have fabricated a compact 128Gb/s dual-polarization quadrature phase shift keying (DP-QPSK) modulator module consisting of InP-based Mach-Zehnder modulators (MZMs), limiting driver ICs and polarization multiplexing micro-optics. To further increase the capacity of the transmission, we fabricated DP-16QAM modulator module which has built-in newly designed linear driver ICs. In this paper, we report design and characteristics of the DP-16QAM modulator module.
