Examination of structure control of the carbon nanotube by LASER ASSIST method

Abstract(in English) Carbon nanotube (CNT) has a good optical characteristic, and is receiving a lot of attention to the new photonic devices such as saturable absorbers. If the structure can be controlled freely, the technological advance of the photonic devices will be expected, because the characteristic of CNT is caused by structure. We suggest the LASER ASSIST method as a control method of the CNT structure and examine the details. In addition, we synthesized CNT using Fe and a Ni catalyst in this study and weighed the CNT structure for the catalyst. By AFM, we observed catalyst particles and measured the particle size of the catalyst due to diameter of CNT. It is observed that the particle size of the catalyst becomes small from the result and synthesis of thin CNTs were able to confirm that it was effective by the LASER ASSIST method. In addition, we analyzed the CNT structure by the Raman spectrometry system and measured a diameter. It was confirmed that diameter of CNT became small from the result. Therefore, we knew with that CNT of a small diameter used a photonic device was synthesized by the LASER ASSIST method.
