Color and Symbol Extraction for Creating a Book Cover Image that Reflects Reader Impressions

Abstract(in English) Book cover images give users not only impressions of contents intuitively but also clues for search and browsing before or after buying books. In this research, we proposed a color and symbol extraction method for automatically creating book cover images reflecting readers' impressions from contents and reviews. To convert texts to colors, we constructed a database focused on the relationships between adjectives. We created the images applied extracted color and symbol to the published cover image for two novels. In a usability test with 20 participants, we confirmed that the images created by this method were more reflected reader impressions than published cover images.
