Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Interpersonal synchronization of breathing is crucial for some collaborative efforts. In the present study, we explored the triggers of interpersonal breathing synchronization. We recorded videos of the movements of models' upper bodies and measured their breathing waveforms. We used the Eulerian video magnification to amplify the body movements of the models. Participants (N=11) were instructed to watch each movie and synchronize their breathing with the model. The breathing waveforms were measured using a respiratory-movement-monitor pickup. The directional flows of information from the breathing of the models to the breathing of the participants were quantified using transfer entropy (TE). The average TE reached its highest value as the model began to exhale, indicating that the beginning of exhalation is an important trigger for interpersonal breathing synchronization.
