Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The foreign language side effect (FoLSE) refers to temporary decline of thinking ability that occurs while one is using a foreign language, in which he/she is not so proficient as in his/her own native language. This lecture first explains theoretically the reason why FoLSE could occur on the basis of attention research, and then describes a psychological experiment demonstrating that FoLSE actually occurs. This paper also discusses some properties of FoLSE and its social implications.
