Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Communication is the interaction between the performer and the recipient. When the performer expresses her/himself, the message conveys not only information to be conveyed but also the "characters" in which the performer sends the message. In communicative interactions in Japanese, this is linguistically encoded as lexical items or speech characteristics. The recipient, however, may not always comprehend the performer' "characters" as expected. In this paper, I will focus my attention to the recipient's comprehension of the performer's "characters". To clarify what kinds of Japanese expressions make potential recipients comprehend the performer's "characters", I have implemented a task in which subjects are asked to join dialogues and the dramatis personae in an adventure game for women.
