Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The high output power wavelength tunable LD is required for DWDM system. For the wavelength tunable LD, precise wavelength monitor is indispensable for stabilizing the output light wavelength onto the frequency grid. Typical wavelength monitor is configured by a tapped front-emitting light through an etalon. In order to avoid an excess loss by tapping the front-emitting light, we proposed the novel wavelength monitor utilizing the back-emitting light of tunable DFB LD array. In this paper, we describe the principle of backside wavelength monitor and investigate the improved structure which enables us to ease the accuracy of etalon bonding. The proposed tunable LD with a backside MMI achieves the relaxing assembly tolerance of the etalon of ±0.1° in calculation.
