Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We examined the spatio-temporal characteristics of human body movement that he or she hits an object by his or her hand. In the experiment, 10 participants were asked to straightforwardly hit a real object in front of them with their index fingers, and the position of the index finger was measured by optical motion capture. We found that (a) the trajectory of the hand was similar to a S-shaped curve, (b) the velocity of the hand as a function of time follows a bell curve, and (c) the position where the velocity was peak was behind the impact position but both positions were very close. These findings indicate that hitting-movement are planned and executed to efficiently transmit power to an object.
