Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This report describes a binaural headphone-stereo system using four virtual loudspeakers located in the rear half-plane of a listener. Each virtual loudspeaker is provided through an HRTF-pair corresponding to the left(90°), right(270°), rear-left(150°), or rear-right(210°) of a listener. A sound-image is rendered with the amplitude control of two adjacent virtual loudspeakers among the four. In an experiment intended to show a listener a sound-image that continuously moved around a listener in his/her rear half-plane, it was reported that the image did not move horizontally but went down at around the back of the head. This feeling was improved in almost all the listeners, however, when the elevation angles of the virtual loudspeakers were individually adjusted for them. Interestingly, similar observations were obtained in an experiment wherein "real" loudspeakers were used for the virtual loudspeakers.
