Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In order to clarify the perception of a moving sound source that approaches to a head or retreats from a head, we have conducted listening tests under three conditions. Listeners listen to (1) moving sounds emitted form a moving loud speaker with actual ears, (2) binaurally recorded the moving sounds via headphones, and (3) synthesized binaural moving sounds using listener's own head-related transfer functions measured with reciprocal method via headphones. In all conditions, all listeners perceived out-of the head moving sound image that approached to a head or retreated from a head except for the frontal direction. Distance sense of the moving sound presented at front was small and apt to be localized inside the head when presented via headphones. In diagonally forward right and left directions, i.e. 45° and 315°, the sound image moved backward to the ear in the temple area when the sound source moved very close to the head.
