Abstract(in English) In this paper, we investigate the small cell on/off scheme using a discovery signal in a dense small cell environment for Rel-12 LTE-Advanced. At the 3GPP RAN WG1 meeting, the study item (SI) regarding small cell enhancement was initiated and the small cell on/off schemes have been intensively investigated as one of interference coordination techniques. Small cell on/off is beneficial to improve the UE throughput performance since inter-cell interference can be avoided by not transmitting the downlink signal such as cell-specific reference signal (CRS) when there is no data traffic. In order to achieve small cell on/off efficiently, it is important to perform measurement for off-state small cells so that the off-state small cell is turned on immediately when new traffic is generated. In this paper, we propose a small cell on/off scheme using a discovery signal enabling measurement for off-state small cells, and show the improvement in the throughput performance by system-level simulation.
