Abstract(in English) We propose a novel direct-detection receiver which enables to demodulate dual-polarization (DP) multi-level intensity-modulated signals at 100 Gbit/s. This receiver consists of the optical circuit called the Stokes analyzer and the digital signal-processing (DSP) circuit. With such a receiver, we can track fluctuations of the state of polarization (SOP) of the signal, which are caused by random changes of fiber birefringence, and demultiplex the polarization tributaries in the multi-level intensity modulation format. In this paper, we first describe configurations of the transmitter and the receiver; and then we evaluate the bit-error rate (BER) performance of the DP four-level intensity-modulated signal through computer simulations. The simulation results show that our receiver operating at 25 Gbaud realizes the 100-Gbit/s transmission capacity, neither relying upon multi-wavelength carriers nor using optical polarization controllers. Since our receiver employs the direct-detection scheme and the DSP circuit with low computational complexity, it is a promising candidate for 100G Ethernet applications.
