Abstract(in English) | Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) based cellular systems face the Inter-Cell Interference (ICI) problem at the cell boundary. Frequency reuse schemes are efficient interference mitigation techniques for such cellular systems. In this paper, we analyze performance of different frequency reuse schemes based on the worst case Signal to Interference power Ratio (SIR) in OFDMA downlink. A closed form expression is derived analytically for the worst SIR, Spectral Efficiency (SE), and outage rate. This analytical approach is utilized to configure a Fractional Frequency Reuse (FFR) solution for downlink of OFDMA based cellular systems. The analysis is performed using two tiers network with uniform user density for different frequency reuse schemes like FFR, Soft Frequency Reuse (SFR), and sectored FFR under different Frequency Reuse Factors (FRFs). The inner radius configuration in frequency reuse schemes depends on equalizing the worst case SIR of both outer and inner edges of the cell. Numerical results show that sectored FFR yields the highest SE and low outage probability. Hence, the sectored FFR is reasonable solution for interference reduction and resource efficiency. For SFR, it is better to use power ratios between 2 and 4 as they achieve reasonable inner radii than others. The analysis results clarify that there is a trade-off aspect between capacity and coverage related to SFR and FFR, respectively. |
