Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Several ideas are discussed for possible realization of a coding scheme for flash memory that allow the operation of block deflation while based on a discrete-cell model. Many flash codes have been proposed so far but most of them assume that only two types operations, cell programming and block erasure, are allowed for flash memory. Another operation, block deflation, is recently attracting interests of researchers, and new ideas including the rank-modulation are eagerly studied. Those new ideas often assume that cell levels are controllable with very precise detail, or flash cells take a continuous value, which seems not realistic at this moment. The purpose of this study is to discuss ideas that can be used to construct a flash code that can utilizes block deflation within the framework of discrete cell-level model.
